We are publishing your projects and activities together with academic videos and other information in your field and disseminate the result of your projects throughout scientific communities, online- and offline-media.

What we will do for you:

We are collecting most relevant academic videos and other materials in your field – so you, your staff and your target group can find a collection of best sources available.

To assure the quality of the videos and the other content collected, we are evaluating and structuring the material according to your evaluation criteria.

In collaboration with you, we are creating topic sites discussing the scientific, historical and social context of your topic or highlighting innovations, outstanding scientists and latest scientific findings in your field.

We will translate your topic site into the languages of your choice.

We are organizing targeted collaborations with actors in your field for commonly developing and publishing topics.

We are posting your topics in social networks and forums and moderating posts and discussions.

We are inviting journalists to use your topic sites for their research or to report about them.

(wlp)° at your conference

(wlp)° will come to your conference to provide a workshop that will activate the potentials of your participants:

Experts with versatile competences will be present at your conference. Thy will contribute with their knowledge to your conference by commonly creating a shared knowledge base on the topic of your conference.

Our workshop will turn the attendees of your conference into active participants that

  • contribute with their knowledge to the outcome of your conference
  • help identifying most valuable online resources about the topic of your conference
  • start focused collaborations with the other participants
  • use their networks for extending the scope of your conference
  • help to implement the goals and results of your conference

Two phases during the conference

  1. Assembling contents: In the first phase of the workshop we will ask each participant to propose his or her most favorite, most interesting and remarkable video, text, statistic or other item related to the topics of your conference – and to present it to the other participants.
  2. Creation of common topic sites: The second phase will be organized as a first editorial meeting, where the participants will collect the items on topic sites, decide about the shape of the topic sites, the order of the content, the target groups addressed, potential partners involved and a publishing strategy.

Two phases after the conference

  1. Collaboration beyond the conference: We are aiming at initiating lasting and targeted collaborations among the participants. Thus, we will organize further online editorial meetings, coordinate network activities with associated partners and moderate developments on the topic sites.
  2. Publishing your conference: The information collected on the topic sites will not only be published on (wlp)° but also on websites of other organizations interested. The material will thus be available, and the knowledge be applied in multiple contexts. We will encourage the collaborators to invite their colleagues and to use their networks for publishing the common work, and we will invite journalists to use the topics covered for their research and to report about the conference.

Send your students out to collect academic videos of scientists and scholars from around the globe!

The internet is providing a steadily growing number of knowledge resources, particularly academic videos. However, students usually do not get advice on how to use these sources scientifically and how to exploit them for their education.

Within this workshop, we will send your students out to collect academic videos of scientists and scholars from around the globe in their field of interest. On their expedition, they will contact students from other universities – putting together their ideas and perspectives for commonly creating interdisciplinary topics. The best topics will be published on the world lecture project, on social media, and other platforms – open for others to join and freely accessible for everyone interested.

Workshop: 4 hours / 8 hours
Seminary / Webinar one semester: 15 sessions
Seminary / Webinar two semesters: 30 sessions

University students
University teachers
Staff members of companies/ organisations/ institutions

This is what the students would take with them:

  • They discover and reflect multiple perspectives of scholars and scientists from different cultures and ages on the topic of their interest.
  • They would actively use the opportunities of global knowledge exchange and build international networks already at an early stage of their education.
  • They would learn to work with the sources on the Internet in a structured manner, to critically reflect them and to connect them with practical life.
  • They would learn to prepare and publish scientific content in the media, to present themselves and their topics to the public.
  • As a result of their work, they would have a well-structured knowledge base with academic videos and other online resources in their areas of interest that they can successively extend and use not only for their studies but also beyond, in their professional life.

Your institution would also benefit:

  • Your students would serve as knowledge agents for delivering your university with new trends and information, and they would establish contacts with students, scholars, and scientists from other universities for future collaborations.
  • They would successively create a unique and valuable library of academic videos from around the globe covering the disciplines of your university, which can be used by your students and professors.
  • They would record and publish lectures, discussions, and experiments made at your university which could then be used for blended learning and be published online.
  • They would create a profile page for your university at the world lecture project presenting your university together with your activities in science and teaching, displaying the videos recorded at your university, and the topics covered by your students.

What will happen at the workshop?

Identifying interests and defining topics
Following the maieutic approach of Socrates, we will ask each participant about his or her interests and current focus of research and support them with defining a topic accordingly.

Using the competences of the participants for extending the topics with new perspectives and ideas
In a brainstorming session, the participants will discuss what aspects they assume to be most important about each topic of each participant. Thus, different perspectives on the topics will appear and the competences of each participant will be activated. Working group units with 4-6 participants will be formed along common interests and interfaces.

Introducing students into basic skills of scientific working
Participants will be introduced into the basics of scientific working and how scientific working should be applied to research evaluation and usage of online resources.

Online-research of academic videos that relate to the topic
The participants will go out to research and collect most relevant academic videos and other materials for their topic on video-platforms, libraries, scientific networks, and university websites from everywhere in the world. They will then evaluate, categorize, and structure the material collected. Back in the group, they will report about the best sources that they found and discuss what aspects still need to be covered and what additional sources should be used.

Producing Videos
The participants produce videos explaining their interest and their research motivation. They might record interviews with people concerned or involved in the field or record lectures, experiments or discussions at their university that add to their topics.

Curating the content, creation of texts that connect and discuss the contents
With their video collections, they will create attractive and exciting topic sites on the world lecture project. They will create texts introducing their topics and connecting the videos. They will add photos, graphs and statistics. They might discuss the scientific, historical and social context of their topic, introduce controversial debates, highlight innovations, outstanding scientists or latest scientific findings.

Stimulating collaboration with actors in the field covered by the topics
The participants will contact students from other universities and experts identified during their online research—such as the producers of the videos, representatives of organisations and initiatives. They will invite them to help improve and extend the topics and to display them on their websites/in their networks.

Edition of the topic sites in editorial teams
The working-group will be turned into an editorial team and the workshop into an editorial meeting. Its members will discuss the content, the arrangement of videos, headlines, texts, photos, and graphs. They will define target groups for each topic and discuss how to approach the target groups. They will provide each other with critical feedback and serve each other as editors. Finally, they will create an overview-page introducing their topics.

Translation of the topics
Involving collaborators from other countries, the team will discuss and synchronize activities for translating the topics into other languages.

Publishing of the topics
The team will discuss, decide, and implement a common publishing strategy: Using social networks, partner-networks, republishing of the topics on third-party websites, inviting journalists for reporting about the topics or using them for their research.

Follow up
To keep the work on the topics going, infrastructure (such as regular online meetings and collaboration tools) will be introduced. Thus, the participants can continue their collaborations autonomously. The participants will be supported to continue feeding their topics with new contents and to use their new tools, skills, contacts, and networks for creating further topics throughout their studies and beyond.
