Description
A few more clips of Paul Ricœur discussing Descartes. Among other things, he discusses the Cartesian turn from being to subjectivity (i.e. from ontology to epistemology as "first philosophy", marking the beginning of modern philosophy), Descartes' famous Cogito, Cartesian dualism between mind and body, human beings as the masters and possessors of nature (marking the beginning of the technological age), the passions, the sources of error, Descartes on God, the nature of time, the influence of Descartes on contemporary philosophy, and the difference between Cartesian thought and Ricœur's own hermeneutical thought.
This comes a 1987 interview with the Multimedia Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sciences. As always, the translation is my own. My French isn't that good, and because I didn't use any references or have it checked, you might want to take the translation with a grain of salt. I hope there aren't any major mistakes, but please let know if you find any!
