Description
This is the third in a series of new 45-minute Webinars developed and hosted by ReasonIO. In this webinar, I introduce the participants to some of the main features of a classic doctrine of Stoic philosophy - Epictetus' Dichotomy of Control
We focus particularly on his discussions of this distinction in Enchiridion ch. 1 and in Discourses book 1, chapter 1. We go over the distinction itself, what getting it right or wrong involves, some common objections to the distinction, William Irvine's propose trichotomy, then finish by looking at Epictetus' conception of "use" (khresis) and a few examples he provides.
We also take about 20 minutes worth of questions, providing some answers to those.
This is a shorter version of a much more intensive, 2-hour online seminar, available on May 20, at 10 AM and 4 PM Central Time . If you'd like to learn more about that, click here - https://reasonio.wordpress.com/online-seminars/online-seminar-epictetus-dichotomy-of-control/
We will be providing additional webinars throughout 2017. If you'd like to know more about them, click here - https://reasonio.wordpress.com/webinars/
We also offer longer, more intensive 2-hour online seminars each month. To learn more about those, click here - https://reasonio.wordpress.com/online-seminars/
