We hear a lot about Tech City - formerly known as Silicon Roundabout – and how London start-ups account for about 80 per cent of the £560 million invested in technology in the UK. There is a tech buzz in the capital, probably louder and more frenetic than in any European city at the moment. But the truth is that only a handful of these companies will make it out of incubator to second and third stage funding, let alone to international success. Do UK investors have the right attitude to risk and failure? How can London startups hope to scale up and compete on the global stage? Does London have a permanent edge, or, to use the metaphor of another gold rush, is this simply a flash in the pan?
