Description
Aliya Saperstein https://sociology.stanford.edu/people/aliya-saperstein, assistant professor of sociology at Stanford University, presents on her book manuscript, Racial Mobility: How Selective Fluidity Reinforces Social Inequality. Using a range of historical and contemporary evidence, from vital statistics to experiments, she demonstrates that the ways in which people identify themselves or are racially classified by others can change, not only across generations, but also within their own lifetimes. This presentation was part of the RICSRE Faculty Research Fellows Chautauqua Series and took place on January 28, 2016 at CCSRE, Stanford University. At these book salon-style events, faculty fellows discuss and debate their new work with faculty, graduate students, and other campus affiliates.
