Kathryn Gin Lum, assistant professor of religious studies at Stanford University, presents on her first book, Damned Nation: Hell in America from the Revolution to Reconstruction, https://global.oup.com/academic/product/damned-nation-9780199843114?cc=us&lang=en& which asks how widespread belief in hell influenced Americans’ perceptions of themselves and the rest of the world in the first century of nationhood.
