April 12, 2013 | Pope John XXIII's famous encyclical letter, Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth), was issued during the height of the Cold War as a call to action, not just to Catholics but to "all men of good will." Fifty years later, the role of human rights and human dignity is as important as ever. A conference, sponsored by the Office of the President and co-sponsored by the Berkley Center, examined the historical origins of the document, and the impact it has had on Catholic social teaching, politics, and world affairs.
