Description
Slate correspondent Justin Peters and editor-in-chief of The Baffler John Summers discuss Peters' book, The Idealist: Aaron Swartz and the Rise of Free Culture on the Internet. Summers shares his own memories of Swartz, from their time working together on the Baffler. Peters examines the circumstances around Swartz' legal case, his manifesto encouraging a free culture movement on the internet, and its larger effects on society. Both men discuss how this issue became such an important part of Swartz's life and his shocking suicide.
Swartz was well known to Boston's hacker community as a fellow studying with Larry Lessig, as well as being a founding developer of Reddit and Creative Commons.
