Roxanne Stockwell, Managing Director of Higher Education Awards at Pearson, speaks about the emerging models of HE provision and Pearson's approach to these models.
Roxanne joined Pearson in February 2011 as Managing Director of a new division called Higher Education Awards. Her role is leading the development of HE provision for Pearson, as the company extends its activities into the design, development and delivery of degrees. She came from 10 years at BPP University College, the first commercial organisation to be awarded Degree Awarding Powers in the UK, where she was Dean of Learning and Teaching and an executive director on the board of directors. Originally Roxanne graduated from the University of Sydney (BA and LLB), and worked as a solicitor, an in-house corporate lawyer, and in the theatre managing an educational theatre company that toured outback NSW, before emigrating to the UK. While at BPP she completed an LLM in Intellectual and Cultural Property at UCL and is currently studying for a DBA in Higher Education Management at the University of Bath.
The Adapting to Disruptive Times:Emerging Models for HE Provision Conference was held by the University of London International Programmes and the Observatory in November 2011. The aim of the conference was to discuss disruptive challenges to higher education, how the sector is adapting, the role of new players, and to perform some informed 'crystal ball-gazing'.
