Description
Millions of people are affected by progressive myopia. Because the sclera, the white of the eye, is too soft, the eye ball seems to expand inexorably causing destructive changes of the retina and severe visual impairment. Scientists of the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine (TRM) Leipzig are looking for ways to prevent this. The new therapeutic approach aims to strengthen the scleral stiffness by collagen cross linking and hence, to stop eye extension.
